EurAV’s Executive Director, Declan Cassidy, is the recipient of the Italian Fusion Festivals ‘Best Film’ award at the event recently. The social film maker, who qualified for Oscar consideration in 2010 with his multi-award-winning Irish Film Board-funded short on homelessness “Whatever Turns You On” scooped the recognition for the Italian episode of his social integration tv series “Home Thoughts From Abroad”.
With his connection to EurAV, Declan provides on set and on location practical experience for budding film makers and other content creations when shooting his projects. ‘Home Thoughts From Abroad’ was a six part series, funded by the Irish media commission Coimisiun na Meán. It aired on Dublin Community Television which broadcasts on Virgin Media channel 802 as well as streaming on the channel’s website, dctv.ie.
“It’s really nice to be recognised for a project that has social inclusion at its heart,” said Declan. “I graduated from the Italian department at Trinity, so being picking up an award from the Irish Italian community is particularly nice. These occasions really help to motivate you. It’s like a little sign that you’re on the right track.”
