Home Thoughts From Abroad is a community TV series, opening a window on the most populous non-Irish national communities. Funded by Coimisiún na Meán, produced by film maker Declan Cassidy and with training provided by EurAV, the series has just gone live here, on the online channel TVIE.
The communities featured are Brazilian, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian and Spanish.
“The episodes are only 15 minutes long, so they’re just enough to give a flavour of the communities,” explained producer Declan Cassidy. “We spoke to a wide range of people – from Ambassadors to teachers – to learn a little about these newer members of the Irish family. One of the things that came through with all of these communities was the tricky balance that parents have, bringing up their children to be Irish, but without losing their sense of heritage from their homeland.”
A further two episodes – Latvia and Ukraine, are due for release in the coming weeks.
